Terre Napoleon Shiraz 2021

Tasting Notes

A terrific bright red/ purple, the wine is very dense in colour too, with intense red and black fruits and the merest whiff of island eucalyptus. TN is extremely well-balanced, medium-bodied with a long, plush, flavoursome palate and length. The Terre Napoléon will cellar for a considerable length of time if stored correctly, from 8-15 years.

96 points The Real Wine Review Huon Hooke January 2023

Vintage 2021 was a dream, a little bit like Baby Bears porridge; just right. We had good rains (above average) in the preceding winter, not too much heat during spring and summer, very few heat spikes during harvest and dry throughout the ripening period. Can we have another one just like 2021 for 2022 please?

Terre Napoléon comprises Joch’s favourite barrels of Shiraz from our Springs Road vineyards. Shiraz is harvested and brought back to our Willunga Battle of Bosworth winery, where they are crushed and fermented in small open 2 tonne vessels. We pump the fermenting juice over the skins (more flavour and texture) and allow the wine to finish fermenting in barrel. The Terre Napoléon spends about 16 months in a brand new French barrique, as well as a couple of two-year old barrels.

  • Halliday Wine Companion 2024

Fresh, complex and well-structured all at once, and yet with straight-out drinkability left intact. This is the kind of savoury-styled wine that you really do want to hook into, within the bounds of price and general alcohol responsibility of course. Black pepper, twiggy spice, cloves and prime cuts of juicy black cherries and plums. Beautiful.

  • The Real Wine Review

Deep, bright purple-red colour and a rich, chocolaty, meaty/spicy and vanillan bouquet, complex and Rhône-ish, the oak neatly merged with the rich chocoate/mocha and fruitcake flavours. A big-boned, concentrated shiraz with long ageing potential. Impressive stuff.
